WildBlue ViaSat Exede high-speed Internet is supported by two state of the art satellites covering nearly the entirety of the United States. The latest satellite, launched in 2011, provides the highest speeds of any satellite ever launched into orbit.
So what do you need to get started? Just a single 26" satellite dish and a modem. We provide these for you and install them on your scheduled installation date.* Once your account is activated, the equipment works together to support your new high-speed connection.
Below is a look at a typical WildBlue customer set-up.
*Customers requiring non-standard installations may be subject to an additional fee and will receive more equipment.
WildBlue Satellites
WildBlue recently launched the ViaSat-1 Satellite, offering a breakthrough level of capacity and speed. Viasat-1 offers more capacity than all of the other internet satellites over North America combined. This satellite adds to the already strong satellite presence of WildBlue. Combined, these satellites cover all 50 states providing hundreds of spot beams. These beams each serve one of our service areas, transmitting reliable signals between the satellites and your equipment.
WildBlue Equipment And Set Up
Satellite Internet service from WildBlue is extremely easy to set up and use. Your installer will bring a 28" x 26" minidish to mount on your roof. If the minidish will not mount securely to your roof, it will be mounted on an exterior wall or with a pole mount. The minidish captures the signal from the WildBlue satellites and uses the latest technologies to deliver top speeds to your computer. Its small size makes it an inconspicuous addition to your home's exterior.
WildBlue will also provide a modem to connect one or more computers to the WildBlue network. Your WildBlue installer will connect the modem to your PC with an Ethernet cable, or it can be attached to a wireless hub or router. This process usually takes between 2 and 3 hours.
Your WildBlue system will work with nearly any computer. For a PC/Windows based computer, the minimum requirements are: 300 MHz+ processing speed, 128 MB Random Access Memory (RAM), and Windows 2000, XP Home or XP Professional, Vista or Windows 7 operating systems, 100 MB of hard drive space and an Ethernet card. For Macintosh computers, system requirements are: 300 MHz or faster processing speed, 128 MB Random Access Memory (RAM), and OS 10.4 or higher operating system, 100 MB of hard drive space and an Ethernet card.
The World Wide Web, You, and the WildBlue Yonder
Your decision to proceed with an upgrade to WildBlue Satellite Internet Service gets easier when you have all the information at your fingertips. That’s why we give you a step-by-step look at the installation process. Like anything that’s new and exciting, it gets easier to understand once you know what is involved. In this case, there are three main components and your already own one of them, namely, your computer. That leaves two additional items that will be installed. Let’s go over them here.
The minidish: This is what connects WildBlue satellites to you. Our satellites in space will empower your internet speeds via this small dish. Upon arrival at your home your installation professional will carry a 28" x 26" small minidish to be mounted on your roof. In the event that the mini cannot be firmly and securely mounted on your roof, we will install it on an outside wall, or on a pole mount. The small dish captures the signal from our WildBlue satellites and uses advanced technology to bring top speeds to your computer. The dish is discreet in appearance so your home’s exterior remains all but unchanged.
The modem: Your professional installer will also unpack and bring in a WildBlue modem that will be connected to your computer or to your wireless hub or router using an Ethernet cable. You can connect one or more computers that way. The total window of time for your installation process is normally between two to three hours and you’re done. It’s totally worth it!
So, free up your land line, get rid of monotonous and frustrating wait times with dial-up, and turbo-charge your online activities. What will you do first on your new WildBlue Satellite Internet-powered computer? Will it be checking tomorrow’s weather tonight? Reading email? Shopping? Video chatting with friends or family?
